The "Beer Cooler-Mobile"
Well, it's Friday, so I thought I'd address something a little less serious today, namely something from a news story coming out of Bloomfield.
The "beer cooler-mobile" made a big splash when one was ridden into the Bloomfield Town Council meeting by one of the councilmen. It was said to be a political statement by the gentleman to indicate that a beer cooler could be driven around town, so why not golf carts? But let's skip the politics for now and talk about the cooler-mobile itself. After all, you can search this newspaper's archives and find talk about allowing golf cars on town streets for the past five years, but a the beer cooler-mobile is something fresh and new to talk about.
Another provision deals with beer keg illegally being sold to scrap metal dealers. The provision states that a scrap metal dealer or recyclable metal dealer may not purchase beer kegs from any person other than the beer manufacturer whose identity is printed, stamped or attached to the beer keg. The dealer who purchases the beer keg must also obtain a proof of ownership record from the seller of the beer keg and verify the seller's identity by government-issued photo identification.
State law requires liquor stores to affix a beer keg tag to all containers they sell, Suchy said. The retailer must fill out a form saying who bought the keg so police can trace it.
Consumer protection department inspectors check the keg books and receipts, which stores must keep on file.
