Aliya Jackson had no clue that in the fall of 2006 her life was about to change direction. After writing a 6-page story called “Invisible”, which was the first story she ever wrote, little did she know it would turn into a movie 10 months later. Today, that movie is called “Cover”.
Her passion for writing was inspired by an article in a magazine that touched on a subject matter affecting 83% of women’s health. Her determination to educate and heighten awareness throughout the country has her inspiring and motivating various people in the entertainment industry.
Aliya enjoys writing because there are no boundaries of time or place. “No one is there but me, I develop these characters, worlds, and put pieces of the puzzle together in order to get that “perfect” script.” Writing allows her to tell unforgettable stories for her audience to escape to. Her ability to blend real life with imagination creates limitless creations. “Stories allow audiences to re-connect with their emotions or just escape from reality for that moment…”, Aliya continues… “Should they walk away from the story having been educated, inspired, motivated or impacted; then I feel they experienced the life I wrote about.”
It seems as if Aliya has always had her hand within the entertainment industry. Her father was a jazz drummer and had her listening to various styles of music at an early age. Her mother put her in dance classes (jazz, tap, and ballet) because she was always making up dance routines to showcase at house parties or at school talent shows. As an adult, she started working for a major network as an executive assistant. “You really have to stay two steps ahead of these executives and organization is key.” After getting her fingers wet, Aliya stepped into helping organize promo shoots, small fashion/photography shoots to being an associate producer to various celebrities and production companies in the Los Angeles area.
Ms. Jackson’s passion and love for animals is something that she has held dear to her heart since childhood. “I always knew that one day I would either be in the veterinary field or the entertainment industry. She believes that being in the veterinary field has made her what she is today. “Being around animals is a blessing, a gift… I always felt I understood them in some magnitude.”
Leaving the world of animals and becoming a screenwriter, Aliya has no problem in the transition. “Now I know why I was put on this earth and that is to write.”
Ms. Jackson has a B.S. from Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, Georgia in Veterinary Technology.
She resides in Los Angeles with her American Staffordshire Terrier mix, Noir.
