Dear Friend,
Unfortunately, too many of us have heard of someone who has been subjected to verbal abuse, or even worse, physically attacked based on his or her sexual orientation here in the States or in the Caribbean. Help bring awareness to these senseless acts of violence, promote tolerance and respect for individual rights and stop the violence.

I, Selena Blake, am currently working on a documentary titled Taboo...Yardies; the film captures the violence against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in Jamaica and the violation of the individual's human rights. Taboo...Yardies will also examine the socio-economics, socio-political, mental health, religion and the intergenerational trans-Atlantic transmission of homophobia and how violence gets generated on one side of the Atlantic and perpetrated, preserved and re-enacted on the other side (here in the US). Hear people on all sides of the issue tell their stories and share their perspectives.

Since 1999 we have received hundreds of submissions of films to be screened in our series. We only select the best for screening; films that invoke passion, shed important information, or touch our audience in a particular way. We have screened over 100 films as a part of the 'Film & Cultures Series' at Medgar Evers College and no film brought forth the type of deeply personal and emotional conversation that the film Taboo Yardies created.
